Navigating the aircraft was Paramus Police Officer Matt Lombardo, 27, who — along with three other soldiers — made a special stop in the borough for the community's National Night Out celebration.

Crowds watched as the helicopter hovered above the field, then zoomed across the sky and back to its home in Linkhurst.

It didn't take long, though, before youngsters were back to nibbling cotton candy in the back of police cruisers and dribbling basketballs with first responders.

Police Officer Brian Linden gave children rides on a mini bike with the department's motorcycle unit while first responders showed families the insides of fire trucks and ambulances.
