The volunteer department's new $7,000 thermal imaging camera enables firefighters to search for people in smoke-filled environments by marking them with a heat signature, Lt. Jeffrey Kaplan told Daily Voice.

A federal grant also allowed the department to purchase an SCBA pak tracker -- a homing device that signals the location of a firefighter during a fire, he said.

"Both of these pieces of equipment enhance our ability to search and navigate during a fire," Kaplan told Daily Voice.
