YOU READ IT HERE FIRST: A Lodi police officer was trying to do the right thing when he warned a group of parents double-parked outside a local grammar school not to do it again, but Chief Vincent Caruso was adamant that one motorist, in particular, be ticketed: His wife.
Lodi Police Chief Vincent Caruso
“I don’t want anyone to ever think that any of us consider ourselves above the law,” Caruso told CLIFFVIEW PILOT .
The chief, in typical fashion, didn’t want to make anything of it, but he courteously answered questions after a tipster told CLIFFVIEW PILOT .
The patrolman “came to my office to let me know he was going to give tickets to a bunch of cars that were double-parked but was reluctant because one of the parents was my wife,” Caruso said.
“He felt uncomfortable about it, but I told him: ‘I’m ordering you to write her a ticket’.”
Caruso immediately paid the $64 illegal parking ticket — the second time he’s done so for his wife.
And he’d do it again, the 33-year department veteran told CLIFFVIEW PILOT .
“She’s amazing: We have four kids [ages 2, 4, 5 and 13], and somehow she’s able to take care of so many things at once,” said Caruso, who’s been Lodi’s top cop nearly nine years.
“She’s always running in and out of places,” he said. “So I can see how it happens.”
At Caruso’s direction, the Lodi Police Department has produced an impressive website. For more information on the chief and the department, click on the banner, below, or on: LodiPD.org
