Gunman barricaded inside Paramus building

ONLY ON CLIFFVIEW PILOT (12:45 p.m.): A former Exxon employee with a handgun is holding police at bay in the company’s Paramus office at 11 Sunflower Avenue. There are no hostages and he hasn’t yet made contact with police, although he’s spoken with his former boss and others, a law enforcement official with knowledge of the situation told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.

UPDATE An Exxon executive wrestled with a 63-year-old service station employee armed with a knife and a starter pistol who later held police at bay for more than two and a half hours before surrendering to SWAT-team negotiators. READ MORE….

“We’re not sure what his demands are,” the source said. “I don’t know if he knows yet.”

A SWAT team, K9 squad and negotiator are all on the scene. The building, which has a Prudential sign out front, is on a dead end off Route 17 near the Popeye’s restaurant. It houses several different offices.
