PARAMUS, N.J. — After a day of solemn reflection and ceremony, TD Bank officials boosted the collective spirits of the Paramus Police Department by delivering a $2,423.40 check for new bulletproof vests to police headquarters.
The 9/11 fundraiser launched a partnership between the department and the bank's Forest Avenue branch as part of TD Bank's nationwide "Bring Change" initiative.
Rotary members, PTA members and seniors were among the donors who used the branch's Penny Arcade to cash in coins. The bank matched the amount.
"People would come in with a bag of coins and were happy to throw in $10-15," Trossman said. "It added up."
"We were able to match their donations," he said, "so a little bit from everybody ended up being a lot."
Each vest costs between $800 and $1,000, depending on the size of the officer, Deputy Police Chief Robert Guidetti said.
