ORADELL, N.J. — Strangers, friends and loved ones shared kind words and memories on various social media pages remembering Oradell talent agent Mark Schlegel, who on Thursday was found dead near his home.
Many also reached out to his widow, Chris, offering words of support.
"Chris, we have never met," Holly Lebed writes. "But I want you to know that I am here for you and that Mark was and will always be loved by me and so many others. He will never be forgotten. He was a prince among men. A gentleman and a gentle man."
An Oradell police officer found Schlegel's body Thursday afternoon in bushes just off Kinderkamack Road, barely a half-mile from his home.
Schlegel, who had gone missing Aug. 13, "had been there for awhile," a law enforcement official said.
Given the body's condition, an autopsy by the Bergen County Medical Examiner would have to officially determine the cause of death, another said.
However, the veteran investigator said: "We're not sure if it was pills or what, but it isn't suspicious."
More than $53,000 had been raised as of Friday morning on a GoFundMe site launched to buoy funding for the search.
"Mark came to my yoga class most Sundays," Virginia Fernandez Smith added. "When my sister was ill he never missed an opportunity to ask how she was doing.
"He was a caring gentle soul and he will be missed."
