Rain, Snow, Sleet, Hail: Nothing Closes Allendale Bar & Grill ALLENDALE, N.J. — The rest of West Allendale Avenue in Allendale may have looked like a ghost town Tuesday, but the food, beer and laughter were flowing at the Allendale Bar & Grill. The beloved eatery makes it a point to stay open in all weather, said Owner Chris Kunisch. “When Sandy hit, we had to close because we had no power, but other than that, we’ve always stayed open,” he said. “It’s a service to the town and the community and a tradition we like to keep going.” At one table were Jen Brady of Allendale and Al Daloisio of Wyckoff who were discussing matters relevant to a nonpro…

Nice To Knit: Hillsdale's ‘Yarn Diva’ Shares Her Passion HILLSDALE, N.J. — Retirement didn’t sit well with Ann Marie Santarelli of Montvale, so she opened a shop that indulges her passion for knitting. This year the Yarn Diva on Hillsdale Avenue in Hillsdale celebrates its 10th anniversary. In all that time, Santarelli, a former school aide, has learned a thing or two about her selling her hobby. “The first year was a little haphazard. I was going on what I liked,” said Santarelli, 70. “Each year, I get a little bit better. I listen to my customers. If a few people ask for the same thing, it must be something people want.” Her shop is a color…

Cold Can't Keep St. Patrick's Day Parade From Marching Through Bergenfield BERGENFIELD, N.J. — There weren’t enough sweaters in all of Ireland to warm the crowd that showed up in Bergenfield Sunday to watch the 36th Annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade. Freezing temperatures meant a smaller crowd than usual lining Washington Avenue. “It’s crazy to be out here but it’s been a tradition for many years,” said Charles Yates of Washington Township. “You have to come— family, friends.” Other parade-goers called the turnout “mellow” and “light” even as they sipped green-colored drinks and huddled under blankets.
