The four-time New Jersey High School state wrestling champion is among among six regional winners chosen for the National Wrestling Hall of Fame's Dave Schultz High School Excellence Award.
Suriano of Paramus is the second wrestler in history to complete his career without a loss (159-0).
"That's what I train to do," Suriano told Daily Voice. "I train to win."
The award was established in 1996 to honor olympic world champion Dave Schultz whose career was cut short when he was murdered in January 1996 while training at Foxcatcher Farm in Pennsylvania.
A street sign with Suriano's name on it, along with that of Paramus High School rising senior Kyle Cochran, stands in Jockish Square in Paramus to honor his accomplishments.
"I'm working hard to make the status I did and working harder to make it even better," he said. "It's always good to be rewarded for my hard work."
Suriano will be wrestling for Penn State this fall in the Big 10.
