Bildner provided writing tips and suggestions during the day, according to a statement about the event, which said that he encouraged the students to read aloud to their siblings and parents.

The author shared with the students some of his favorite books, reading from some of them in addition to his own, according to the statement, which said that the author again stressed the importance of daily reading.

Bildner, who has authored several children’s books in the past 15 years, is well known for an award-winning book released last year -- “Marvelous Cornelius (Hurricane Katrina and the Spirit of New Orleans)” -- which was published by Chronicle Books in August 2015.
