Bergen Catholic Among State's Top Catholic High Schools

ORADELL, N.J. — Bergen Catholic in Oradell ranked No. 9 in the Niche report's 2015 list of Best Catholic High Schools in the state.

Niche combined survey results from more than 120,000 parents, students and alumni with the most recent statistics available through the U.S. Department of Education, as well as other government and public data sets, to identify the best Catholic High Schools in all 50 states and the District of Columbia.

Bergen Catholic's "report card" included:

Academics: B

Student Culture and Diversity: C+

Private high schools considered for this report were pulled from a database of 7,669 high schools that offer 12th grade, have at least one enrolled senior and an average grade size of at least 3 students schoolwide with high ranking schools denoting an “exceptional academic institution with a diverse set of high-achieving students who rate their experience very highly,” according to their website.

“Schools were not included in the ranking process if they did not meet these minimum requirements,” reads the report. “Of the schools that identified as having a Catholic religious affiliation, the final ranking results in 1,143 high schools receiving a grade, with 1,140 of those also receiving a numerical ranking.”

Niche determines rank using a 60 percent weight on academic grades, 30 percent weight on student culture & diversity and a 10 percent weight on the survey responses reflecting parent and student opinions on the overall experience at the high school.

According to the educational ranking service, these survey responses include 26,484 opinions about overall experience from 13,830 unique students, recent alumni, and parent with a minimum requirement of seven unique respondents from each school.
