Suicide: Dumont Man, 47, Steps In Front Of Freight Train In Bergenfield

BERGENFIELD, N.J. -- A 47-year-old Dumont man killed himself Tuesday morning by stepping in front of an oncoming freight train in Bergenfield, authorities said.

The victim parked in a nearby lot and walked to a stretch of tracks between West Central Avenue and Church Street, where he was struck at 8:18 a.m. by a southbound CSX freight train, Capt. Mustafa Rabboh said.

He was pronounced dead at the scene, the captain said.

"Our condolences go out to the family," Rabboh said.
