Created to tap state resources for local agencies, the RDT serves New Jersey's largest county by population, with nearly 1 million residents in 70 municipalities.

It mobilizes special resources as needed and conducts proactive initiatives, such as Thursday's station visits -- in, among other towns, Hackensack, Ridgewood and Rutherford.

Prosecutor's detectives assigned to the RDT are "specially trained in community policing, patrol, counter-terrorism and other backgrounds that make them highly useful and very effective," Bergen County Prosecutor Gurbir S. Grewal said.
