The memorial to emergency service workers, with the 16-foot beam as its centerpiece, will be erected at Borough Hall in front of the Public Safety Building.

It will be adjacent to a garden honoring the five River Edge residents who died that day.

River Edge Local PBA 201 collected the beam from a hangar at JFK Airport last fall.

Firefighters, ambulance workers, dispatchers and others have contributed their time and energy into the project, as well.

Let it Grow, Inc., a local landscaping company, has been working with them on the project and has housed the beam until it’s ready to be placed.

WHAT : Beefsteak Dinner : All you can eat & drink (beer, wine, soda, water), tricky tray, 50/50
WHEN: 6 p.m. Wed., April 18
WHERE: St. Peter the Apostle Church gymnasium, 431 Fifth Ave., River Edge
CALL: 201.599.6279
OR: Bring check payable to PBA Local 201 with WTC on memo line

Early estimates for the project were about $30,000. Additional costs of preserving the memorial are being raised at next week’s dinner.

All money collected that night will go toward that purpose, the PBA said.
