Police: Paramus Deli Worker Sexually Assaulted 6 Kids At Hackensack YMCA

HACKENSACK, N.J. -- A Paramus supermarket worker living at the Hackensack YMCA was arrested Friday and charged with sexually assaulting six children between the ages of 6 and 9 there last week.

Hackensack police Friday morning arrested Timothy Smith, a 42-year-old former accountant who'd been living at the Main Street Y, on sexual assault and child endangerment charges, Capt. Peter Busciglio said.

The incidents all occurred at the Y last Friday and were reported to city police the same day, he said.

"With the assistance of the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office, the six victims...were interviewed during the course of the next over the next two days, Busciglio said.

Smith, a father of three and former Ridgewood resident, had been employed as a deli worker at the Paramus ShopRite on Route 4.

A judge ordered him held without bail in the Bergen County Jail pending further court action following a detention hearing.
