Hasean Wyche, 36, of Brooklyn told officers after crashing the silver 2012 Infiniti G37 that he was "only smoking some weed" when he was taken into custody around 1:15 a.m., Paramus Police Chief Kenneth Ehrenberg said Thursday afternoon.

The officers, who could smell burnt marijuana, also found two bags of crack cocaine in the car, the chief said.

Officer Gil Maynard tried pulling the car over on Route 17 just north of Ridgewood Avenue for having "extremely tinted" windows and no visible license plate, Ehrenberg said.

Wyche hit the gas instead and later lost control of the car, which swerved and struck a wall at Hollwood Avenue, he said.

Wyche was taken to Bergen Regional Medical Center after complainig of low blood sugar, the chief said. He was later lodged on $25,000 bail in the Bergen County Jail.

Charges include possession of crack, eluding police, DUI and driving with a suspended license.
