BEYOND BERGEN: On the 9th anniversary of her disappearance, the FBI is offering a reward of up to $20,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of whomever kidnapped a Brazilian exchange student from Newark.

Carla Vicentini arrived in the U.S. on Jan. 19, 2006 and began working at a White Castle restaurant on Route 46 in Ledgewood while living at the nearby Roxbury Motel.

On Feb. 5, 2006 she moved into an apartment with a roommate on Ferry Street in Newark.

The Portugese-speaking Vicentini was 22 years old when she visited her roommate at the Adega Bar and Grill on Ferry Street, where the woman worked as a waitress, before leaving at 2:30 a.m. Feb. 10 with an unidentified white man whom she apparently met that night, the FBI said.

He was described as 5’8’’ and 200 pounds, stocky, about 30 years old, with a fair complexion, light eyes and short salt and pepper hair.

Vicentini, who appeared intoxicated, “told her roommate she was going to look at a photograph in the automobile of this individual, and would meet her at their apartment, only a few blocks away,” the bureau said.

She was never reported seen or heard from again.

Vicentini was born on Apr. 29, 1983.

She was 5-foot-7 and 140 pounds, with blond hair and brown eyes.

She had several body piercings and tattoos, including a gray angel on her back, a red and yellow chameleon on her left hip and a tribal tattoo on her lower back.

If you have information that could help the investigation, authorities ask that you contact your local FBI office or the nearest American Embassy or Consulate.
