Boy, 9, Pulled From Pool At JCC In Tenafly Dies

TENAFLY, N.J. -- A 9-year-old boy who was pulled from the pool at Kaplen JCC on the Palisades in Tenafly last Thursday died Sunday afternoon, police said.

Michael Placide of Brooklyn, "had been admitted to the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at Hackensack University Medical Center and was surrounded by his family at the time of his passing," Capt. Michael deMoncada said Monday morning.

Responders who rushed to the 911 call of a juvenile drowning said the boy was in cardiac arrest after being pulled from the community center pool around 3:45 p.m. He was given CPR for nearly 15 minutes, they said.

The boy was first taken to Englewood Hospital and Medical Center before being transferred to HUMC.
