Robert M. Marion, 63, of West 5th Street in Moonachie, was behind the wheel of the vehicle that struck 76-year-old Richard Maloney as he was crossing the highway near the QuickChek just before 7:45 p.m. last Sunday, Bergen County Prosecutor Gurbir S. Grewal said Wednesday.

The victim was rushed to the Intensive Care Unit at Hackensack University Medical Center, where he remained for several days with injuries that include a shattered hip, broken collarbone and broken ribs, a source with direct knowledge of the incident said.

Marion was charged with leaving the scene of an accident involving bodily injury and hindering apprehension, Grewal said.

A first appearance was scheduled for Nov. 29 in Central Judicial Processing Court in Hackensack.
