PARAMUS, N.J. -- Robert J. Bender, 75, of Manchester and formerly of Paramus, passed away Friday, March 25, 2016.
Before retiring, Bender worked for Olin-Hunt Corporation as a plant manager. He was a Eucharistic Minister, usher and parishioner for 25 years for Our Lady of Good Counsel in Washington Township.
He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus and president of the bocce league in his community, where he was affectionately known as "Bocce Bob."
He was the husband of Lois Bender (nee Androsiglio) for 55 years; father of Robert Bender and his wife Michelle and Karen Chibaro and her husband Frank; and grandfather of Alec, Robbie and Sabrina. He also is survived by many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his brother, James Bender.
The family will receive friends from 1-4 and 6-9 p.m. Monday at the Vander Plaat Memorial Home, 113 S. Farview Ave., Paramus. The funeral service will be at 9:15 a.m. Tuesday at the Vander Plaat Memorial Home, followed by a 10 a.m. funeral Mass at Our Lady of Good Counsel, Township Of Washington. Cremation will be private.
As an expression of sympathy and in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in his memory may be made to St Jude's Children's Hospital, 501 St. Judes Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
