PARAMUS, N.J. -- Michael Joseph Linda, of Manchester and formerly of Paramus, died Tuesday, Aug. 16. He was 92.
Born and raised in Paterson, he proudly served with the U.S. Navy during World War II.
An active and faithful parishioner of Our Lady of the Visitation R.C. Church in Paramus, he was a lecturer and member of the choir. He also was a parishioner of St. John the Baptist R.C. Church in Toms River.
He served more than 15 years as a volunteer mounted deputy with the Bergen County Sheriff’s Department Calvary Unit, where he attained the rank of captain and also served on the Civilian Board of the Bergen County Jail.
He also enjoyed golf, fishing, art, archery and showing his accomplished horses which earned many awards.
He was the husband of 61 years of Gertrude (Velthaus) Linda; father of Mary Beth Tinnesz and husband Dr. Thomas, Patricia Kusnic and husband Michael, twins Michele Linda and Michael Linda and wife Sherri, David Linda and Julie Cavalieri and husband Chet; brother of Edward Linda; and grandfather of 12.
The family will receive relatives and friends from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday at Vander Plaat-Caggiano Funeral Home, 13-31 Saddle River Road, Fair Lawn. A funeral Mass is planned for 10 a.m. Friday at Our Lady of the Visitation R.C. Church, 234 Farview Ave., Paramus. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Paterson.
