Lillian Theresa Makinson, 93, Paramus Resident

PARAMUS, N.J. -- Lillian Theresa Makinson of Paramus, died on Sunday, Jan. 22. She was 93.

Makinson was born in Long Island and spent her first few decades there. She was a civilian employee at Mitchell Air Force Base for 12 years, then worked for both Long Island Lighting Company and Sperry-Rand Corporation, until she retired to raise her family. 

"She greatly enjoyed gardening, and sewing, having made most of her own clothes," the funeral home noted. She and her late husband also enjoyed square dancing.

Makinson is survived by her children, Linda Asaro of Oakland, Lewis Makinson of Loudonville, and Jean Makinson of Salem, Massachusetts; grandchildren Brooke, Ryan, Joseph, Christine and Justine; great-grandson Jacob; and 13 nieces and nephews. 

She was preceded by her husband, Milton Makinson; parents Joseph Verba Sr. and Mary Kropáček Verba; and brothers Joseph Jr. and William.

Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 3, at Gifford Funeral Home of Richmond, 22 Depot St., in Vermont. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday at Gifford’s, with a graveside flower-laying following at Riverview Cemetery, in Richmond. Burial will be private. Oakland Memorial Home, in Oakland, is assisting with arrangements.
