PARAMUS, N.J. -- Joseph Niland, 78, of Paramus, died Thursday, Sept. 29.
After attending Iona College, he worked for the Automobile Club of New York for 43 years before retiring.
His life centered around his family and the R.C. Church of the Annunciation in Paramus, where he served as deacon for 40 years and was very active in many aspects of the church. He was a member of the Father Waters Knights of Columbus #5680 where he was a 4th degree Knight, Chaplin of the Paramus Fire Department and a member of Paramus Fire Company #3, the Neighborhood Spanish Club and the Bergen County Fire Chaplin's Association and a former member of the Juvenile Conference Committees.
Niland was a Marine veteran who served our country proudly.
He was predeceased by his wife, Maureen (nee Moloney): and brothers, Larry Niland and the late Francis Niland.
He is survived by his children, Denis Niland and his wife Patty, John Niland and his wife Judi Chompre, Brian Niland and his late wife Barbara, Steven Felsing and his wife Ashley and Mary Ann Rumsey and her late husband Joseph; and 11 grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 6-9 p.m. Sunday and 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday at the Vander Plaat Memorial Home, 113 S. Farview Ave., Paramus. The family also will receive friends from 9-10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the R.C. Church of the Annunciation, 50 W. Midland Ave., Paramus. There will be a funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the R.C. Church of the Annunciation. Interment will be in George Washington Memorial Park in Paramus.
