PARAMUS, N.J. — A gas leak on Route 4 in Paramus closed both sides of the highway from 2 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. after United Water accidentally struck a gas line while doing construction, authorities said.
Route 4 was closed from Spring Valley Road into River Edge, causing congestion on local streets, Deputy Police Chief Rob Guidetti said.
Paramus police along with county and state departments set up detours, he added.
Forest Avenue was closed from Brookfield Avenue to Shepard Way, Guidetti said.
Route 4 has been reopened.
