Video: Bergen, Passaic Singing Seniors Bond Over Love Of Doo-Wop

PARAMUS, N.J.– A group of seniors in Bergen Community College's (Paramus) Institute for Learning in Retirement Program bonded over their love of doo-wop, and perform across Bergen and Passaic as "The Wildcats."

The group is part of a larger chorus, Sing Sing Sing, directed by Barbara Heitman of Oakland. 

The members come from all over Bergen and Passaic:

  • Cynthia Jacobs (Teaneck)

  • Susan Novie (Oakland)
  • Shelly and Robert Stein (Fair Lawn
  • Arlene Tancorra (North Haledon)
  • and Silvia Tallowy (Oakland) 

The Wildcats have performed at The Shoppes At Riverside's Senior Source, and for the senior day care program at the Kaplen JCC on the Palisades (Tenafly), Camp Hope in West Milford, and other senior centers in Bergen and Passaic. 

"We love seeing the smiles on the faces of our audience and having them remember the words and sing with us," said Friedman. "We sing for the joy it gives us and our audiences. It is our way of giving back, and we have gotten friendship and fun in return."

 The Wildcats have upcoming performances at the Four Seasons in Wayne – donations for the Wayne Food Pantry will be accepted in lieu of an admission fee – the Nanuet Library, the Midland Park Senior Center and Englewood's Bergen Family Center.
