Raymonde Dauphin, who was born Sept. 18, 1916, in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, isn’t one to hold grudges, niece Tamarha Ellerbel told Daily Voice.
“Forgive, forget and move on,” said Ellerbel of Teaneck. “She’s been teaching me that.”
Dauphin, who immigrated from Haiti almost 30 years ago, never had any children of her own but took care of everyone else’s, Ellerbel said.
Her dream is to be known as “Sainte Raymonde.”
The once-avid swimmer specialized in embroidery at an all-girls secondary school.
She continued sewing for friends and family, offered private French and math lessons and even knew how to play the piano by ear.
Dauphin, a resident in the Teaneck Nursing Center, was proud to have passed the citizenship exam when she moved from Haiti to Queens, N.Y. almost 30 years ago.
Even at 100, she will never pass up good food, music or wine.
“She is the most generous, a very religious person and believes strongly in her god,” Ellerbel said.
