But, she said, she's delighted to go back and help.
Just four months after returning from her first trip, the mom and physician is planning a November trip and hopes to raise $2,000 on a GoFundMe.
Griffin will again be working as a volunteer physician in the camp medical clinics through the Syrian American Medical Society, "SAMS," and donations will go toward medical supplies or non-medical humanitarian needs (think school supplies).
Whatever is left will be donated to other volunteers on the ground.
Seeing the terror-stricken refugees being pulled to shore on the news resonated to deeply with Griffin last winter and spring that she searched for agencies that she could volunteer with.
"I went in June because there were people who needed help, and practicing medicine is a skill set that I can offer," she said.
Once there, she realized how very similar the people were to her colleagues, her friends and herself.
"They had homes and jobs. Their kids went to school. They went shopping, to grocery stores, to libraries, like we do."
"By virtue of timing and location, their skies fell apart and bombs rained down on their homes, schools, and hospitals," Griffin said. "They are trying to escape that for an actual future. Wouldn't we all try to do the same?"
