PARAMUS, N.J. — The Paramus Rotary Club recently inducted two new members into its ranks -- retirees Howard Soled and Georgianna Hutteras -- bringing the club's total membership to a record 80.

Such growth is impressive, considering that rosters of many other local rotaries are dwindling, Fred Rohdieck, the club's public relations director, told Daily Voice.

"In our case this is the largest rotary club in our district, and it is showing some signs of increasing more," he said.

Rohdieck says the life experience, wisdom, and free time to contribute that Soled and Hutteras have will be great assets to the club.

He also believes that retirees offer a great opportunity for rotary clubs to expand membership.

"Most people's impression of rotarians is that they are all high-powered executives with a lot of money," Rohdieck said. "We're trying to break the mold and suggest that retirees is a population that may have been ignored in terms of being good active members.

"My hope is to get the word out to baby boomers who are retiring soon," he said. "They are a great group of people who we need to focus on, because, thus far, I think that group has been ignored."
