PARAMUS, N.J. — 9/11 this year will bring the Paramus Police Department new bulletproof vests, courtesy of TD Bank.
Officials and employees at the TD Bank branch at 275 Forest Ave. will be raising funds for the vests from 8:40 a.m. to 4 p.m. tomorrow.
They will then present a check to the department at 6 p.m. at police headquarters on Carlough Drive.
“A bulletproof vest is one of the most important pieces of equipment that could save an officer’s life,” Deputy Police Chief Robert Guidetti said. “A vest and proper tactics an officer employs should be able to give him an opportunity to make it home at night and kiss his kids.”
Vests cost between $800 and $1,000 depending on the size of the officer, Guidetti said.
Doing its part in a "Bring Change" initiative by TD branches nationwide, the Paramus bank will match a portion of the coins counted at its Penny Arcade that day to help borough police "keep working towards a better community," bank officials said.
