The Hardyston resident, who lived in Garfield for many years, spent almost 17 years at a hair salon in Paramus but always had a dream of venturing out on her own. As an Italian immigrant, you could call it the American dream.
Now she's fulfilled her goal with the opening of Sara Michael Salon. The salon opened Aug. 9 but is having its ribbon-cutting and grand opening ceremony -- complete with refreshments -- Saturday, Oct. 7 from noon to 3 p.m.
What makes the salon unique is its personal touch and commitment to the community.
First responders and other law enforcement, for example, are treated to special deals -- $10 haircuts for men and $20 for women. The salon is also a big supporter of the fight against breast cancer. For Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October, Morea has partnered with Susan G Komen to fundraise in the salon with Race for the Cure T-shirts.
Along with community tie-ins, the salon prides itself on offering the latest technology in hair color and cuts with 100 percent formaldehyde-free hair smoothing treatments.
"We purchase the best products for our clients and our prices are very competitive," said Morea.
New salon clients are entitled to a free haircut with any color service.
Born in Sicily, Morea also knows the value of hospitality. To that end, there's coffee, water, snacks and complimentary wine.
