Bergen County's Bolero Snort Brewery Keeps Things 'Hopping'

RIDGEFIELD PARK, N.J. -- In just three and a half years, Bolero Snort Brewery has the craft beer business by the horns.

The Ridgefield Park business, which has released 15 different kinds of beers this year, recently more than doubled its capacity by moving the bulk of its production from Butler to Pennsauken in addition to brewing smaller batches at various host breweries throughout the state.

Known as "gypsy brewing" because the team relies on different facilities to create its trademark bold varieties -- there's hope, according to Sales and Events Manager Scott Wells -- that, within the year (ish) they will find their own space somewhere in Bergen County.

Until then Bolero Snort is charging ahead (pardon the pun) to continue making handcrafted ales and lagers with fun names like -- cue the bull jokes -- Ragin' Bull, Rotatabull, Kowabunga, Bravehorn, and Moovember.

Wells admitted the team is all about making “fun beer." To that end, recent additions include a lemon meringue wheat, apple pie beer, and a cream pop IPA. Coming up next: a smoked brown ale with coffee and maple syrup.

"We can't keep them on the shelves," said Wells of East Rutherford. A good problem to have -- although he often has fans personal messaging him on Facebook asking when and where there will be a delivery. "And they are there waiting when I get there," he said.

It's that customer service and social media engagement that set the company apart from others. He and Bolero Snort Founder Bob Olson of Franklin Lakes are very interactive with the company's fans and have built a reputation of responding to their needs.

"New Jersey has developed a fantastic beer community," said Wells. The interesting thing? Beer sales, especially in the fall, are tied to football season. "When the Jets/Giants struggle, beer sales can slump, and this can happen as early as October," he said. "Luckily now we're 2 and 0."

The company, whose “go-to” according to Wells, is its Ragin’ Bull Amber Lager, also plans for its Rotatabull IPA to be available more frequently.
