ORADELL, N.J. — Craig Brenkert gets up at 3:30 every morning and makes his way from Midland Park to Oradell.
He doesn't return home until well after sunset, but doesn't seem to mind the long hours at Kinderkamack Road's Schreiber's Deli.
After all, Brenkert's got a more than 60-year legacy to maintain.
"The customers are awesome and the people here are friendly," said Brenkert, who purchased the deli, along with co-owner Ryan Charalmbous, eight years ago.
One of Brenkert's high school buddies had been working at a deli.
After Brenkert joined his friend, he realized there wasn't anything else he wanted to do.
But without hesitation, he said he knows what keeps his customers coming back: potato salad.
Schreiber's goes through 2,000 pounds of it from Friday to Monday of Memorial Day Weekend.
It's still among the most popular items now that the temperatures have dropped, along with chicken cutlet, macaroni salad and homemade meatballs.
